Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 73, was sworn in today along with 72 ministers in the new coalition government, marking his third term in office. The coalition, dubbed “Modi 3.0,” includes 30 Cabinet Ministers, five with independent charge, and 36 Ministers of State. Portfolio allocations will be announced at a later date.
Key figures in Modi 3.0
PM Modi’s leadership continues after a significant electoral victory in 2014, following a decade of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule. This is the first coalition government under his tenure.
Prominent BJP leaders expected to join the Council of Ministers include JP Nadda, Nitin Gadkari, Rajnath Singh, Piyush Goyal, and Jyotiraditya Scindia. HD Kumaraswamy from JD(S) is also likely to be part of the ministerial team. Other anticipated appointees include Chirag Paswan (LJP), Ram Nath Thakur (JD(U)), and Jitan Ram Manji (HAM).
Expanding the coalition
The coalition is set to be diverse, with potential members like Jayant Chaudhary (RLD), Anupriya Patel (Apna Dal (Soneylal)), Rammohan Naidu (TDP), Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani (TDP), and Pratap Rao Jadhav from Shiv Sena, indicating a broad representation across various parties and regions.
This new government formation reflects a blend of seasoned politicians and new entrants, aiming to deliver on the electoral promises and governance goals set by Modi and his coalition partners.
