Breezy Explainer: What is Twitter Blue? How can it benefit users and the platform?

Twitter is all set for rolling out Twitter Blue to users in the US and New Zealand. Here’s everything you need to know about how the subscription service works and benefits users.

What is Twitter Blue?

Twitter, the popular microblogging site is about to start running Twitter Blue, its new subscription service. The company on Tuesday announced that users in the United States and New Zealand will soon get to try it out. The service offers several features including the option to undo tweets and scroll through the site without ads.

The heavy-hitting subscription service follows Twitter’s recent investments like Super Follow and Tip Jar. This subscription feature is aimed at driving engagement between the platform’s users and creators. Additionally, with this new service, Twitter is ready to diversify its sources of revenue. The service was first announced in June and is designed to provide great features for a small fee. The plans will cost $2.99 per month in the US and be the same for iOS, web, and Android users. However, region-specific plans will be released as Twitter Blue is released in various places.

What are the new features?

The subscription service not only provides an ad-free experience on Twitter but also on Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, The Atlantic, Rolling Stone, and more Twitter’s new subscription is a direct way of funding journalism. Subscribers can also access Top Articles with Scroll. “In continuing our commitment to strengthen and support publishers and a free press, a portion of the revenue from Twitter Blue subscription fees goes directly to publishers within our network,” said Sara Beykpour and Smita Gupta, the project managers. “Our goal is to help each publishing partner make 50 percent more per person than they would’ve made from serving ads to that person,” they added in the blog post.

Undo Tweets is probably one of the most exciting new features. Subscribers also have 60 seconds to preview and edit their tweets. “The ability to undo tweets before posting may help users avoid unwanted typos or other errors in their posts,” said Jhon Scalzi, a sci-fi author. However, so far, the social media giant has not released the ‘edit Tweet’ feature. Subscribers can also catch up with what’s happening around them in easy ways. They can use the pinned conversation feature to pin their favorite ones on top of their DM list. Subscribers can upload 10 minute long videos instead of the standard two minutes.

Users also get to experience Twitter’s exclusive icons, themes, easy reader, and bookmark options. They can experience ‘Custom Navigation’ to customize what shows up in their navigation bar for easy and quick access on the Twitterverse. Moreover, if you subscribe to Twitter’sservice, you get the chance to experience new features before everyone else.
