Sofía Jirau, a Puerto Rican model is making history by becoming the first Victora’s Secret model with Down syndrome. Here’s all you need to know about her.

On February 14, Sofía Jirau announced her new gig on Instagram. “One day I dreamed it, I worked for it and today it’s a dream come true. I can finally tell you my big secret. I am the first Victoria’s Secret model with Down Syndrome!,” she wrote on her page. “Thank you all for always supporting me in my projects. This is just the beginning, now it’s formed! Inside and out there are no limits,” added the model.
According to Jirau’s official website, her first debut as a model was in 2019, on her 23rd birthday. Later in February 2020, she walked at the New York Fashion Week. Additionally, her career is not limited to modeling. In 2019, she launched an online store named “Alavette”. It is based on the phrase “I love it”. The website sells a variety of accessories and clothing. Additionally, she also began her campaign, “Sin Limtes” translating to No Limits. The campaign is dedicated to increasing awareness about Down syndrome and helping the community.
“There are no limits”
“When I was little, I looked myself in the mirror and said, ‘I’m going to be a model and a businesswoman,’” stated Jriau on her debut at the New York Fashion Week while conversing with People at that time. She also shared a video of her ramp walk at the event with the caption reading “I was born for this and I want to show the world that I have everything a model needs to shine”. Additionally, while addressing the support from her family and modeling team, she stressed that she will not let anything come between her and her goals. Moreover, “Inside and out, there are no limits. There aren’t. Everyone can accomplish their dreams,” she added.
