Game of Thrones opens door to Westeros, in Northern Ireland

Game of Thrones

Fans of Game of Thrones will be able to explore the land of Westeros at a £40 million attraction that will feature sets, costumes, and artifacts from the hit HBO series. Linen Mill was one of the show’s filming locations in Northern Ireland. It will host the Game of Thrones Studio Tour later this year. Since the end of filming in 2018, the sets for the Great Hall of Winterfell and Castle Black have remained there.

For the 110,000-square-foot spectacle, other sets have been renovated and iconic props such as the Iron Throne have been included. Before the outbreak, Game of Thrones tourism was thriving in Northern Ireland. One out of every six leisure visitors acknowledging the show influenced their judgment to visit in 2018. According to Tourism NI, this amounted to about 350,000 people spending £50 million in the local economy. Stormont Economy Minister Gordon Lyons has acclaimed the venue on the outskirts of Banbridge in Co Down as “game-changing” for the region.

“These are the actual sets that we walked on. These are the actual costumes we wore, the swords we swung”

“We expect to increase that. This is a global TV phenomenon and we want to bring a global audience to Northern Ireland to get close to Game of Thrones,” general manager Brad Kelly told BBC News. “These are the actual sets that we walked on. These are the actual costumes we wore, the swords we swung,” actor Ian Beattie, who played Meryn Trant, told Reuters

Fans will also be able to explore sets such as Dragonstone, the wrecked throne room. They’ll also get to see profound objects such as Jon Snow’s famed Longclaw sword, Sansa’s wedding gown from her marriage to Joffrey. They will be able to discover how prosthetics and visual effects were formulated.

Peter van Roden, Senior Vice President of Warner Bros. Themed Entertainment, said: “We’re incredibly excited to be opening the doors to the first-ever Game of Thrones Studio Tour at Linen Mill Studios. Knowing you are in the very same spot where some of the series’ most memorable moments were filmed is an incredible feeling and we know fans of the franchise will feel the same when they see the rich detail in the sets, costumes, and props up close and personal.”

Game of Thrones was released in over 207 countries and territories. Thus, resulting in record-breaking ratings. The show certainly has thrived into one of the considerably outstanding and recognizable shows in television history.
