Warner Bros keen to develop more Harry Potter content

Ann Sarnoff, CEO of Warner Bros., recently stated that the company would love to create more original Harry Potter content. The announcement comes after all eight Harry Potter films were made available for streaming on HBO Max earlier this year. Even though the rights are technically owned by NBC’s Peacock. For the time being, WarnerMedia’s HBO Max appears to be the franchise’s permanent home, with the service reportedly focusing on exciting new Harry Potter projects.

Many Potterheads wondered if the franchise planned to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 2001’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The Fantastic Beasts franchise spawned eight massively successful feature films. As well as the Fantastic Beasts spin-off series, The Cursed Child play, and a rumoured HBO Max original series. And fans finally got their wish when WarnerMedia confirmed that Harry, Ron, and Hermione will reunite on-screen once more. HBO Max’s announcement last month that many of the original cast members, including Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint, would be returning for a magical reunion special. Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, which will be available on the streaming platform on January 1.

Warner Bros. and HBO Max appear to have no intention of slowing down when it comes to Harry Potter. According to THR, Sarnoff stated at a recent Bloomberg conference on Wednesday, December 15, that Warner Bros. “would love” to develop more “original Harry Potter series.” She explains, “We would love to develop more original Harry Potter series, and we regularly talk to JK Rowling and her team. Whatever we do has to be true to the canon, and true to the ethos of the Wizarding World, and who Harry is.”

It’s been a buzzy year for Harry Potter, with the much-loved franchise is set to release a slew of new content. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, the third instalment in the Fantastic Beasts spin-off series. It has received an official trailer. And will premiere in April 2022. Furthermore, rumours of a Harry Potter TV show in the works at HBO Max surfaced earlier this year, leaving many fans wondering what a Harry Potter series would look like.
