Seo Won Jeong, 27, also known as “WonJeong Man” or @ox_zung, reached unprecedented levels of popularity as Korea’s most followed non-celebrity TikTok content producer, with an astounding 55.6 million followers. Known for his viral recreating videos with his signature yell, ‘Mama!’ Seo, also known as ‘Mama Guy,’ has gained worldwide acclaim and was named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Asia 2023 list.
But his once-brilliant professional trajectory took a sharp turn when he abruptly stopped sharing content, perplexing his horde of followers. The mystery surrounding Seo’s absence was finally dispelled when he appeared in South Korean headlines as “Influencer A,” who is currently being investigated for allegations of sexual assault.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported that “Influencer A and one other man were arrested for sexually assaulting a woman”. The incident is said to have occurred during a get-together where they drank with ‘Woman B’. After taking her to the other man’s house, they allegedly attacked her while she was unconscious. When “woman B” awoke from her sleep, she “heard recording noises” and realized she had been sexually assaulted by both males, so she went to the police.
“It has been confirmed that ‘Influencer A’ refused to open the door when police arrived to investigate the scene,” according to the reports, dramatically altering the course of the investigation. It took the help of the fire department to pry the door open. Despite the fact that the original news story made identifying Mama Guy difficult, his supporters were able to do so thanks to a grainy background video.
TikTok influencer mama guy faces sexual abuse charges
Since then, the prosecution has received the case from Seoul Gangnam Police Station, and Mama Guy faces up to seven years in prison if found guilty of sexually abusing an unconscious person. Because Seo’s phone contained insufficient evidence, the prosecution dropped the charges of unauthorized filming. Seo claims that sexual relations were voluntary in order to set the stage for the truth to be revealed during the first court hearing, which is scheduled for January 17, 2024. The once-famous TikTok influencer’s future remains uncertain as the legal process continues. Meanwhile, SOONENT, Seo’s management, has yet to state the matter.
