World’s heaviest cherry that weighs 33g grown by farmers in Italy

Italian farmers Alberto and Giuseppe Rosso have produced the world’s biggest-ever cherry. A huge 33g fruit that has shattered the record. Alberto and Giuseppe Rosso of Pecetto Torinese, Piedmont, grew the carmen cherry. Pecetto Torinese is roughly four miles southeast of Turin and is famous for its cherry cultivation. For almost a century, the Rosso family has been cultivating cherries.

Alberto Rosso told la Repubblica: “For some years now we have noticed that our carmen cherries are Guinness world records in size and this year we decided to do things right and called a panel of experts.”

The new record for the world’s largest, heaviest, and biggest-ever cherry is 33.05g (1.16 oz). It likewise surpasses another Italian farmer’s previous record of 26.45g set in Ferrara in February of this year.

2021 was also a poor year for the Italian cherry. One out of every four was lost due to severe weather. Still, the record shattered the previous one, according to the Italian farmers’ association Coldiretti, which informed the news agency Ansa.

“In spite of the bad year, Italy remains the main producer in the European Union, with almost 30,000 hectares cultivated, situated in Puglia, followed by Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Veneto e Lazio,” the Coldiretti group said.
