Women declare 'sex strike' in the US to get abortion rights back

Following the repeal of pro-abortion laws in the US, several women are planning to go on a ‘sex strike’. Here’s all you need to know.

Women to go on a “sex strike”

Women in the US are planning to go on a sex strike following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

“If you’re a man who won’t get a vasectomy, even though it’s reversible, and you’re not out in the streets fighting for my rights, you do not deserve to have sex with me,” stated Brianna Campbell. Campbell works as an Emergency Medical Technician in New York.

“Why shouldn’t we withhold it if we’re always worried that they’re not going put a condom on, that they’re going take one off after we ask them to. If we can’t safely go out and have sex and know that we will have a choice after that, then why should we be expected to?” asked Caroline Healey, an event coordinator, participating in an abortion protest in Manhattan’s Union Square.

“If this world thinks that they can oppress women forever, then we close our legs,” said Maya Demitri, a rape survivor.

Additionally, #abstinence trended on Twitter, and the idea of a sex strike has come up in wake of the ruling to get back the right to abortion.

“I want to find people who are coordinating a mass sex strike. That is our power. Women have the power here. No more sex until abortion rights are federal law,” wrote a Twitter user. (Diazepam)

“If I have no right to my body, men have no right to it either. “Sex Strike” tweeted another. However, several world leaders are criticizing the Supreme court’s decision to overturn the Roe v Wade ruling.
