India: Woman dies after being dragged for 4 kms by car in Delhi

Stuck in the wheels, dragged for 4 kms… the death of a 20-year-old woman shocks India's capital

On Sunday, a 20-year-old woman riding her scooter was hit by a car and her body was carried for four kilometers in Sultanpuri, Delhi’s outskirts. She died as a result of the tragic incident. Police nabbed five persons who were inside the automobile and are accused of being inebriated.

The Kanjhwala police station received a PCR call early Sunday morning reporting the finding of a car with a body being pulled along it. A second PCR call was received at 4:11 a.m. regarding the girl’s body laying on the road. When the police alerted the men stationed at the picket lines, a search for the car was launched. The girl’s body was sent to the SGM hospital in Mangolpuri, where it was determined that she had died. The five suspects were apprehended from their houses, and the suspect’s vehicle was also found.

Deepak Khanna (26), who drives a Gramin Sewa auto; Amit Khanna (25), who works for a nationalized bank in Uttam Nagar; Krishan (27), who worked at the Spanish Culture Centre in Connaught Place; Mithun (26), a hairdresser at a salon; and Manoj Mittal (27), a ration dealer in Sultanpuri, have been identified as the five men. According to authorities, the accused allegedly pulled the woman’s body from beneath the car after the incident and then fled the scene.

The men have been charged with reckless driving and causing death via negligence. Police are investigating if the accused was aware that the victim was being dragged but did not stop to assist her. Harendra Kumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Outer Delhi, told ANI news agency that the girl fell from her scooter and was carried beneath the automobile for a considerable distance at the time of the event.

Police are investigating whether the suspects were aware that the woman was being dragged but opted to drive nonetheless. The accused stated to authorities that they were unaware of the incident since the windows were closed and the music was turned up high.

The girl was in a terrible state after the incident, according to investigators. Swati Maliwal, the chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Woman (DCW), was also alerted to the situation and contacted the Delhi police.
