According to sources cited by CNN, Jeff Zients will soon succeed Ron Klain as the new White House chief of staff. Zients’ role will be given significant prominence given the critical moment when Biden is under pressure due to the new special counsel probe into his handling of sensitive documents, even though the sources claimed that Klain will continue to be close to the West Wing.
Zients ran for Joe Biden’s COVID-19 response effort while holding a very high position in the Obama administration. Along with being the COVID-19 response coordinator, he made a good impression on Joe Biden. He also contributed to HealthCare.gov’s 2013 debut during the Obama presidency.
Zients will hold a critical position in the Biden administration
Zients will hold a critical position in the Biden administration at a crucial time when Biden has not yet decided whether to run for re-election in 2024. The Biden administration made its choice following an internal investigation that revealed Klain wanted Zients to take over the important position.
Also before, Klain relied on Zients to oversee a talent search for anticipated staff attrition after the midterm elections. Zients is close to many members of the Cabinet in addition to managing his close relationship with Biden. He is now prepared to deal with the incoming House Republican majority and inquiries into the Biden administration and his family in the West Wing.
Though he doesn’t appear to have as much influence as Klain does within the current Biden administration, he will undoubtedly benefit from his technocratic abilities. Biden will continue to get advice from his core political and governmental staff, which consists of Steve Ricchetti, Anita Dunn, Mike Donilon, Jen O’Malley Dillon, Bruce Reed, and Louisa Terrell.
