Gandhinagar railway station got a major upgrade with an eco-friendly building, 5-star hotel, better lighting, and disabled-friendly usage. Here’s everything about its new facade.
A virtual green signal
The city’s railway station was virtually inaugurated by the country’s Prime minister Narendra Modi on Friday. The Indian Railways shared a before and after picture of the railway station to showcase all its new additions, a day before its official inauguration. The Gandhinagar Railway station now decked with world-class amenities will be on par with modern airports.
What are new upgrades to the Gandhinagar railway station?
The railway station has a 5-star hotel built atop a platform. The construction of the 318 room hotel began in 2017. It spreads over 7,400 square meters and its construction cost is Rs. 790 crores. The hotel will be a host to both Indian and foreign guests who come to attend conferences and seminars hosted at the mahatma mandir, the convention center is right outside the railway station.
Previously the railway station was not friendly for disabled passengers. However, the redevelopment has made it disabled-friendly. It boasts a special low-height ticketing booth, user-friendly ramps, and lifts in addition to dedicated disabled parking areas. The Gandhinagar Railway and Urban Development (GARUD will focus on a special purpose vehicle (SPV) in the station to help the passengers.
Additionally, the entire building is designed according to the latest green and eco-friendly features. It will also feature a state-of-the-art lighting theme with a selection of 32 themes to select from.
