Gavin Ellard and his family were enjoying a leisurely long weekend at the Pafuri Border Rest Camp, relaxing by the pool when they were drawn to splashes in the nearby Luvuvhu River. With his camera in hand, Ellard began capturing what would soon be an intense battle for survival and supremacy.
The standoff: A fight for the same prey
The scene quickly escalated as the crocodile, having just secured its meal, found itself challenged by a daring eagle. The bird swooped in, snatching the food right from the reptile’s jaws. However, the eagle’s victory was fleeting. The prey proved too heavy, causing the bird to struggle as it dragged the food into the water, with the crocodile hot on its trail.
