In a surprising twist, paramotorist Alex Lang made an unexpected discovery while flying over the Great Pyramid of Giza, the largest and most iconic of Egypt’s 118 pyramids. Lang, like many tourists, was taking part in a paragliding tour—a popular way to view the ancient monuments, as climbing them is strictly prohibited.
While soaring over the pyramid’s apex, Lang spotted something unusual: a dog chasing birds at the top of the ancient structure. It remains unclear how the dog managed to scale the towering pyramid or if it eventually made its way down safely. Climbing the Great Pyramid has been banned for years to protect the site and ensure safety, making the dog’s ascent all the more puzzling.
“Those blocks are BIG. That’s a crazy climb for a dog”
The sighting quickly went viral on social media, sparking a range of reactions from amused to bewildered. One user on X (formerly Twitter) quipped, “That’s his pyramid now. He conquered it.” Another joked, “Sometimes you just gotta climb the highest hill and bark at some birds, man.”
Some users even drew on Egyptian mythology for their comments. One user speculated, “Not a dog. That is the Egyptian God Anubis. He is considered the guide of the dead in the afterlife and the protector of the tombs. That’s why it’s over the pyramid.”
Meanwhile, others were skeptical of the feat. “Those blocks are BIG. That’s a crazy climb for a dog. I’m not convinced,” wrote another commenter.
The Great Pyramid of Giza, built between 2580 and 2565 BC during the reign of Pharaoh Khufu, is one of the most enduring wonders of the ancient world. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it continues to capture the imagination of people around the globe. Now, thanks to one adventurous dog, it’s made headlines once again.
