Video captures shocking moment as passenger relieves himself mid-flight
A viral video circulating on social media shows a man urinating towards the safety card of an airplane while seated in the middle seat. The incident, reportedly recorded by a fellow passenger, has sparked widespread outrage. However, the airline involved in the incident remains unclear.
Passenger caught in the act
In the footage, the man appears to be looking around while urinating on the plane floor. The window seat next to him seems to be unoccupied. According to aviation blog View From The Wing, the aircraft in question appears to be a Turkish Airlines Airbus A321.
Recurring problem of in-flight urination
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. Several cases of passengers relieving themselves in the cabin, often under the influence of alcohol, have been reported in recent years.
On an American Airlines flight, a first-class passenger consumed nine Jack and Cokes before exposing himself and urinating in the aisle mid-flight.
The flight was forced to make an emergency landing, leading to the passenger’s arrest. The American Eagle flight 3921, which had departed from Chicago for Manchester, New Hampshire, had to be diverted to Buffalo, New York. The passenger, identified as Neil McCarthy, admitted to consuming multiple Jack and Cokes before boarding in Portland, Oregon, and drinking more during his layover in Chicago. He was charged with indecent exposure.
Air India incident: Passenger urinates on fellow traveler
In another disturbing case, an Indian passenger on an Air India flight from New York to Delhi urinated on a 72-year-old woman in the business class cabin. The accused, Shankar Mishra, was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the incident. The woman, who later described the flight as the most “traumatic” experience of her life, requested a seat change but was informed that no alternative was available. Instead, the crew offered her a small seat used by staff members. Mishra was later arrested and fired from his job at Wells Fargo.
Past incidents of in-flight urination
Cases of passengers urinating in airplane cabins have been documented for years. In 2016, a passenger on an American Airlines flight pulled down his pants and urinated on the floor. A flight attendant, alerted by another passenger, witnessed the man pulling up his pants and informed him that he should have used the lavatory. He was later found lying on the floor inside the restroom, claiming he was not intoxicated.
With a growing number of such incidents being reported, airlines are facing increasing pressure to address disruptive in-flight behavior and tighten policies around alcohol consumption on board.
