Moreover, the attack adds to a tumultuous year for the 82-year-old venture capitalist. He was convicted of drunk driving after an accident in May. He was then sentenced to jail for five days. “The speaker and her family are grateful to the first responders and medical professionals involved. And request privacy at this time,” Hammill said. Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary revealed President Joe Biden was in contact with the family.

While the circumstances are unclear, the attack is raising a question about the safety of Congress members and their families. Additionally, the attack comes merely 11 days before the US midterm elections where public safety and crime are top concerns. “What happened to Paul Pelosi was a dastardly act. I spoke with Speaker Pelosi earlier this morning and conveyed my deepest concern and heartfelt wishes to her husband and their family, and I wish him a speedy recovery,” stated Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
