Kathy Patten was declared clinically dead for 45 minutes before being revived. Her daughter was amid 39-hour labor in the same hospital. Over the Fourth of July holiday, Kathy Patten and her daughter claim to have witnessed not one, but two miracles.
Patten was out on the golf course when she got the call that her daughter Fifer was about to give birth. She had a heart attack shortly after arriving at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center.
Doctors quickly lost her pulse, she explained to WJZ-TV.
“It was a second chance at life. I’m just going to be the best person I can be in every way and I’m grateful for every minute I have,” Patten told the news station.
Meanwhile, Fifer was told that her baby was blocked in the birth canal and that she would need an emergency c-section elsewhere in the hospital.
Patten was revived after nearly an hour of CPR. Her eighth grandchild was born not long after that.
“It was just fate that my Mom was supposed to be here. It was ultimately because of Alora that my Mom is here and happened to be at the right place at the right time,” Fifer told WJZ-TV. “She truly is a walking miracle.”
Grandmother, mother, and child are all in good health. Doctors at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center are now thanking the family for everything they’ve taught them.
“You taught us what it means to live,” said Dr. Dov Frankel. “You taught us what it means not to give up.” It truly was a tale of two miracles.
