Trump urges Facebook to reinstate his account as he prepares for 2024 run

According to the Guardian, Donald Trump has requested Meta to provide him access to Facebook once again as he purportedly prepares to ramp up his 2024 US presidential campaign. More than two years ago, the former US president was barred from Facebook after some of his fans attempted to prevent Joe Biden‘s victory in the 2020 presidential election from being certified by threatening the US Capitol.

Trump’s advisers said in a letter to Meta seen by NBC News on Wednesday that the ban “dramatically distorted and inhibited public discourse” and should be abolished.

Meta stated that it will “announce a decision in the coming weeks.

Trump was barred from Facebook and Twitter the day after the January 6, 2021 incident, which was linked to nine deaths, including police officer suicides. In December, a US congressional committee suggested that Trump be prosecuted for his role in the Capitol attack.

Using his Twitter account, Trump invited his fans to gather near the Capitol. He urged fans to “fight like hell” in a speech before the attack. On Twitter, he later chastised his vice president, Mike Pence, for continuing certification while the assault was occurring.

When Elon Musk purchased Trump’s Twitter account last year, it was restored. Trump, on the other hand, has stayed with the alternative social networking platform, Truth Social, and has not tweeted since.

Trump has around 88 million Twitter followers and 34 million Facebook followers. On Truth Social, he has fewer than 5 million followers.

Trump used Twitter and Facebook extensively during his presidency and during his presidential campaign in 2016. His victory in 2016 was in part to his use of social media and his vast digital reach.
