Trump returns to social media platforms
Following the US Capitol riots in 2021, several platforms banned the former president’s social media accounts. Now two years following the suspension, Meta restored his accounts on Instagram and Facebook. According to Meta, the decision for banning Trump was because he was praising people who were “engaged in violence at the Capitol”. (Modafinil) “If the rules are broken by Trump again, he may be banned again for a period ranging between one month and two years,” confirmed Meta.
Two weeks ago, Meta first announced the restoration of Trump’s accounts. His post challenging the 2020 US presidential election was challenged baselessly are still present on both websites. His last post is now receiving comments from supporters welcoming him back.

Initially, the former president initially suspended indefinitely from both platforms. However, Meta later revised the suspension and reduced it to two years. The move is following the criticism received by the platforms’ oversight board on the open-ended penalty. Nick Clegg, Meta’s president of global affairs argued that people “should be able to hear what their politicians are saying”. He added that in the review of Trump’s social media account, it was no longer seen as a risk to the safety of the public. During the suspension, Trump called it “an insult” to millions of people who cast their votes in the 2020 presidential election. He announced his decision to fight again in the 2024 presidential elections.
