Titanic sub used to take tourists to see shipwreck goes missing in the Atlantic, search launched

According to a BBC report, a submersible meant to transport visitors to the Titanic wreck has gone missing. According to the source, a search and rescue operation has been started in the area to find the submersible. It is not immediately known if there were passengers on board the ship when it vanished. Tourists are taken in these submersibles to the Titanic disaster site, which sank on April 15, 1912, killing more than 1,500 people. The Titanic sank 3,800 meters below the surface of the Atlantic 600 kilometers off the Canadian province of Newfoundland.

In 1985, the remains of the biggest ship at the time were found in the depths of the ocean. It has since received extensive exploration.

80 minutes of unedited video from one of the earlier excursions to the ruins were made available to the public on YouTube in February of this year.

The first full-sized 3D scan of the shipwreck was then released in May. The deep-sea mapping technique was used to obtain high-resolution photos, which meticulously recreated the wreck.

Deep-sea mapping company Magellan Ltd. and Atlantic Productions, who are producing a documentary on the project, completed the reconstruction in 2022.

Over 700,000 photographs were collected by remotely operated submersibles over the course of more than 200 hours as they surveyed the wreckage at the bottom of the Atlantic.

On its inaugural trip from Southampton, England, to New York, the luxurious passenger ship capsized after striking an iceberg.
