Corey Comperatore, a dedicated father and firefighter, was fatally shot while protecting his family during an attempted assassination of former President Trump at a Pennsylvania rally. The 50-year-old Sarver resident’s heroic actions have left a lasting impact on his community.
A tragic incident
Comperatore, who was attending the rally with his family, used his body to shield his wife and one of his daughters from the bullets in Butler, Pennsylvania. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday evening, leading Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro to order flags to be flown at half-staff in his honor.
“Corey was a girl dad, Corey was a firefighter, Corey went to church every Sunday, Corey loved his community, most especially, Corey loved his family,” Governor Shapiro stated during a press briefing on Sunday.
A Father’s sacrifice
“He truly loved us enough to take a real bullet for us,” his daughter Allyson expressed on Facebook. His wife, Helen, described him as a “real-life superhero” in a heartfelt post, reflecting on the nightmare their family faced on what was meant to be an exciting day.
Comperatore’s dedication to his family was evident as he had stepped down from his role as volunteer fire chief for Buffalo Township to spend more time with his children. “His two girls and his wife were everything,” Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Co. Chief Kip Johnston told The Post. “Great leader, great family man, good friend.”
A community mourning
The president of the town’s fire company, Randy Reamer, praised Comperatore’s bravery and commitment. “He was one of those guys you wanted to go into a fire with, because you knew you were coming back out,” he said. Reamer also noted Comperatore’s readiness to help others and his steadfast principles.
Assistant Chief Ricky Heasley, who had known Comperatore for over a decade, described him as full of life and someone who never had a bad word to say. The fire company plans to install memorial drapery to honor his legacy.
Comperatore’s heroic sacrifice and dedication to his family and community will be remembered by all who knew him.
