A manhunt for a convicted child sex offender who escaped custody while seeking treatment at a St. Louis hospital has ended, according to authorities. St. Louis County Police said Thursday night on X (formerly known as Twitter) that “Boyd was located and taken into custody without incident.”Tommy Wayne Boyd, a prisoner who escaped from jail Thursday morning at Mercy South Hospital is deemed a “dangerous” person by officials.

Tommy Wayne Boyd was imprisoned at the Missouri Department of Corrections facility in Potosi, Missouri, prior to his escape. Boyd is a convicted child sex offender, according to authorities.

Who is Tommy Wayne Boyd?

Boyd was convicted of two crimes, according to Missouri court records, which were initially investigated in 1996 and 2007.

In November 2007, a jury found him guilty of child enticement and sentenced him to 30 years in jail. Both of his charges were tied to Greene County, Missouri, in the Springfield metropolitan region, according to court records.

Boyd is also listed as a Tier Level 3 offender on the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s sex offender registry, a designation reserved for those convicted of sex offenses that “pose a significant risk to public safety.” Rape, sexual assault, child molestation, and repeat offenses may result in these classifications.

Boyd measures 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs roughly 154 pounds, and he has balding hair and a beard. He was wearing a black sweatshirt, a black jacket, and orange slippers when he escaped.

“The suspect is a dangerous person, but we’ve brought in the resources needed,” said St. Louis County Lt. Clnl. Jason Long. “If anybody sees this suspect, call 911. Let us know the location, but do not approach the suspect. But I want you to know that we have brought in all the resources needed to respond immediately and effectively.”

The St. Louis County Police Department, along with many other local and state authorities joined the search for Boyd.

St. Louis County police also released a photograph showing Boyd with an unidentified female, which they believe was taken Thursday morning.
