FBI Reopens the Enigmatic DB Cooper Case After 53 Years: A Breakthrough Discovery
In a shocking development, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has reignited the investigation into the infamous DB Cooper hijacking, a case that has baffled authorities for over half a century. This resurgence of interest comes after the alleged discovery of a parachute that may have been used by the elusive hijacker.
The incident: Who is DB Cooper?
DB Cooper, as he is famously known, hijacked a Northwest Orient Airlines flight 53 years ago. Demanding a ransom of $200,000, Cooper made a daring escape by parachuting from the aircraft, vanishing into thin air. The skyjacking has remained one of the most captivating unsolved mysteries in American history.
In an intriguing twist, the children of Richard Floyd McCoy II, a long-suspected DB Cooper lookalike, have come forward with new insights. After their mother’s passing, the siblings reached out to Gryder, a dedicated YouTuber who has been probing the case. In 2022, Gryder was invited to their home, where he was shown a modified military parachute found in McCoy’s garage.
“That rig is literally one in a billion,” Gryder expressed to Cowboy State Daily, emphasizing the potential significance of the find.
The McCoy siblings acknowledged that their father could have been the mysterious hijacker but chose to remain silent until their mother’s death. They also harbored suspicions about their mother’s possible involvement in the crime, which deepens the intrigue surrounding this case.
Renewed investigative efforts
On Monday, Gryder released a YouTube video revealing that the FBI has rekindled interest in the case, following new leads. He disclosed that FBI agents reached out to him after viewing his initial videos, one of which detailed the parachute’s discovery in a storage shed on the McCoy family property.
This marks the first time the FBI has actively pursued the DB Cooper case since it was shelved in 2016, due to a lack of fresh evidence.
Laura Savino, a retired pilot and Gryder’s acquaintance, described the agents’ demeanor as “professional and stoic” during their encounters, telling Cowboy State Daily, “Considering they had requested the meeting, it was clear they were taking it seriously.”
Awaiting answers
The FBI has yet to return the parachute, leading Gryder to suspect that the authorities are seriously considering its connection to the historic hijacking. As the investigation unfolds, the world watches with bated breath, hoping for answers to a mystery that has lingered for decades.
