Worshippers in Ohio were left in awe when a statue of the Virgin Mary appeared to blink during a church event. The remarkable incident occurred at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist, where the National Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima was on display as part of its global tour.
Eyewitness accounts and video evidence
Attendees claim to have witnessed the statue’s eyelids mysteriously closing and reopening on August 2, despite it being an inanimate object. This event was captured on video, and photographs taken by the congregation seem to corroborate the statue’s eye movement.
Katie Moran, a worshipper who shared images online, described her reaction to WJW: “I took a photo and thought, ‘that’s really nice’. Then I took another just to be sure, and when I looked at it, the eyes were closed. I was like, ‘wow!'”
Connie Liptak, another witness, also testified to the event, saying, “I knew it was a miracle because I’d been looking at her all morning. Her lashes were really down, and you could clearly see it.”
The sacred history of the statue
The National Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima, known for its sacred origins, has been touring the world since 1968. It was blessed by Pope Paul VI in Fatima in May 1967 and was later presented to the UK by the Bishop of Fatima.
The statue is believed by some to possess healing powers, with reports of ‘miraculous’ recoveries occurring in its presence. Moran, who helps care for the statue, shared stories of visitors finding remedies for serious illnesses, including cancer and fertility issues.
“For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don’t, no proof is possible. It’s faith, and I believe,” Moran expressed, underscoring the deep conviction of the faithful who witnessed the event.
