A haven for the ultra-wealthy with robotic staff and state-of-the-art amenities
A US-based company has announced the launch of an extraordinary $300 million doomsday bunker, tailored for the world’s ultra-wealthy, promising unparalleled security and luxury in the face of global disasters. Strategically Armored & Fortified Environments (SAFE), the Virginia-based firm behind the project, revealed that the first location, dubbed The Aerie, will open in Virginia next year.
What is the Aerie?
Named after the elevated resting place of birds of prey, The Aerie is not just a bunker—it is a fortress of safety and extravagance. According to Forbes, the ambitious project will eventually expand to include a network of luxury bunkers in 50 U.S. cities and over 1,000 affiliate locations worldwide. The first Virginia-based bunker is set to house up to 625 individuals, boasting White House-level security and amenities.
“We created Aerie to help vulnerable clients when they leave their fortified homes or yachts,” said Al Corbi, founder and president of SAFE.
Features: Where safety meets opulence
SAFE’s flagship bunker promises protection against extreme threats such as nuclear fallout and electromagnetic pulses, with design elements that redefine underground living.
Key highlights include:
- AI-driven medical suites and wellness programs: From hyperbaric chambers to IV therapy, medical care will be robot-managed, ensuring cutting-edge healthcare at any time.
- Gourmet dining and recreational amenities: Residents will have access to an indoor swimming pool, a bowling alley, a climbing wall, cold plunge centers, and even an underground penthouse.
- Blast-resistant infrastructure: Walls built to withstand extreme impacts, ballistic glass for impenetrable windows, and hardened elevators capable of descending up to 200 feet underground.
- Interactive design: Advanced lighting and walls simulate panoramic views, creating the illusion of being perched on a scenic cliff rather than beneath the earth’s surface.
Security: Designed for the world’s elite
With residences priced up to $20 million each, The Aerie offers unparalleled security and exclusivity. Multi-layer biometric authentication, SCIF-compliant environments, and tactical mantraps are integrated into the design.
Naomi Corbi, SAFE’s director of medical preparedness, noted that membership tiers will range from options affordable for “moderately successful CEOs” to an invite-only “Asylum Membership.”
Residences will include:
- 2,000-square-foot suites for individuals.
- Multi-level underground penthouses spanning over 20,000 square feet.
Vision for the future
The only above-ground feature of the complex will be a rooftop penthouse, described as “the pinnacle of exclusivity, resilience, and luxury.” Residents will be able to travel confidently, knowing their security is guaranteed both above and below ground.
SAFE also announced that a “taster experience” for The Aerie will be available in 2026, offering potential clients a glimpse into life within this fortified sanctuary.
A growing market for elite bunkers
The launch of The Aerie comes as global instability and climate threats spur demand for luxury bunkers among the ultra-wealthy. By offering a mix of security, privacy, and extravagance, SAFE is positioning The Aerie as the ultimate refuge for those seeking to weather any storm in style.
For those who can afford it, the future of doomsday preparedness has never looked so comfortable—or exclusive.
