Utah: Mom selling breast milk to help families amid baby formula shortage

Many parents in the United States are rushing for baby formula due to a severe shortage. There is one woman who has stepped up to help.

Alyssa Chitti of Utah has been providing breast milk to thousands of parents who have been struggling to feed their children.

She is not, however, alone. Many mothers, including Chitti, are dedicated to this wonderful cause.

Chitti has sold 4,000 ounces of her breast milk so far. She has more than three freezers full of breastmilk that she hopes to sell to needy families.

In an interview with Fox 13, she said, “I figure I’m running out of room, so might as well help someone else. I know I have over 3,000 ounces. 3,000 ounces downstairs and probably almost 1,000 upstairs,”

Chitti chose to give it to a local milk bank at first. However, she discovered that selling it online was far more convenient.

The woman from Utah claimed she had been selling her breast milk for $1 per ounce, but given the current circumstances, she is willing to compromise.

“It was making me nervous, just because so my daughter was very, very colicky,” she said.

“I know a lot of moms need specific formulas for babies with upset tummies, and I know how hard it can be when they’re upset. There’s nothing you can do about that stomach pain,” she added.

In the United States, buying and selling breast milk over the internet is legal. It is, however, unregulated, which increases the risk. The donor may not have been tested for infectious diseases or contamination.
