A real estate conglomerate has changed its plans to construct the Boardwalk at Bricktown Tower, which aims to be the tallest skyscraper in the country. According to the Oklahoma City Free Press, Matteson Capital plans to extend the tower’s height by a few hundred feet to 1,907 feet. According to Matteson Capital, the tower’s height has symbolic importance. “It commemorates the year that Oklahoma joined the United States as the 46th state,” the business said in a statement.

The company’s original goal was to erect a 1,750-foot skyscraper, the second tallest in the country after the Freedom skyscraper in Manhattan. However, the corporation stated on Monday that it will seek permission from the city’s zoning board to build the massive project. If the variance is granted, the skyscraper will become the sixth tallest in the world. The project consists of four towers, three of which are around 345 feet tall each. The fourth tower, the primary attraction, will rise 1,907 feet above the earth, overshadowing Oklahoma City’s skyline.
The project is a mixed-use development spanning 5 million square feet of land. The development will include 1,776 residential units, two Hyatt hotels, condos, and 110,000 square feet of commercial and community space. According to Matteson Capital, the top floors of the highest tower will include a restaurant, a bar, and an observation deck. However, the idea faces some opposition from city leaders. According to the Oklahoma City Free Press, officials indicated the corporation would need to rezone the site rather than simply request a variance. Oklahoma City is a fast-growing city with a population of about 680,000 people, according to the 2020 census. It is the 20th most populous city in the country and one of the fastest-growing ones.
