Former US President Donald Trump, who is considering running for president again in 2024, reportedly directed his advisers to hire Laura Loomer, an anti-Muslim activist, for a campaign job, according to the New York Times, citing four persons familiar with the plans. Loomer, a far-right activist with a history of expressing racist ideas, is well-known for her inflammatory utterances. She has used anti-Muslim rhetoric and protested social media firms such as Twitter and Facebook for blocking her accounts for propagating hate speech and conspiracy theories.
Several of Trump’s most outspoken conservative fans stated Loomer will no longer be hired
Following his arraignment in Manhattan, Loomer went to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida. Given her history of outbursts and support for the Republican Party’s fringes, some of Trump’s aides are said to be concerned about such a choice. Several of Trump’s most outspoken conservative fans stated Loomer will no longer be hired, appearing to be damage control for Trump’s presidential candidature next year.
Speaking with a media portal on Friday, Loomer said, “Out of respect for President Trump, I’m not going to comment on private conversations that I had with the president.” “The president knows I have always been a Trump loyalist,” she said adding, “I’m committed to helping him win re-election in 2024. He likes me very much. And it’s a shame that he’s surrounded by some people that run to a publication that is notorious for attacking him in order to try to cut me at the knees instead of being loyal to President Trump and respecting their confidentiality agreements.”
She was banned from Twitter in 2018 for violating Twitter’s policy on hate speech
Trump fueled anti-Muslim sentiment during his 2016 campaign. As president, he barred travel from a number of Muslim-majority nations. He previously supported Loomer’s quest for a congressional seat in Florida in 2020. Loomer ran unsuccessfully for Congress on two separate times. She once tweeted the hashtag “#proudislamophobe” and has called Islam a “cancer.” She even celebrated migrants who died attempting to cross the Mediterranean.
She was banned from Twitter in 2018 for violating Twitter’s policy on hate speech. In response to the ban, a Jewish legislator, Loomer, shackled herself to the entrance of Twitter’s New York offices and sewed a yellow Star of David to her attire. Loomer took to social media to criticize Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. DeSantis could run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024. Loomer accuses DeSantis and his wife Casey, who battled breast cancer, of trying to play the “cancer survivor” card “to make people think they are untouchable from criticism.”
