Reality TV stars forced to evacuate as fire claims their home
Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, best known for their roles on The Hills, are among the victims of a devastating wildfire that has swept through the celebrity-filled Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles.
On Tuesday, the couple’s home was destroyed as a 1,200-acre brush fire tore through the area. Fortunately, Spencer, Heidi, and their family were able to evacuate safely earlier in the day.
In an emotional Instagram Story, Spencer shared footage of the wildfire as it rapidly approached their home. The video showed helicopters dropping water on nearby mountainsides in a desperate attempt to contain the blaze. “It’s heartbreaking to watch,” he captioned one clip.
Pacific Palisades fire triggers state of emergency
California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency for Los Angeles and Ventura counties on Tuesday as the fire continued to rage, forcing widespread evacuations.
The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that approximately 30,000 residents were under evacuation orders, with over 13,000 structures at risk.
“We’ve already seen many structures destroyed,” said Governor Newsom, who urged residents to remain vigilant. Fire officials warned that the worst winds were expected overnight, between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Celebrities and residents flee the fire zone
Pacific Palisades, home to many high-profile figures, has been heavily impacted by the fire. In addition to Spencer and Heidi, celebrities including Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Miles Teller, Reese Witherspoon, Adam Sandler, and Michael Keaton have residences in the area.
Actor James Woods, who also lives in the neighborhood, shared video footage of the fire on social media, praising firefighters for their efforts as they worked tirelessly to contain the flames.
Fire’s cause under investigation
As of Tuesday evening, officials had not determined the cause of the wildfire. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, according to LA Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley.
While the exact number of damaged or destroyed structures has not been confirmed, visuals from the area show extensive damage. Spencer Pratt’s footage alone highlights the severity of the destruction.
Governor Newsom reiterated the importance of caution for all Southern California residents, emphasizing, “Do not assume you are safe. These fires can shift quickly.”
A community reels and recovers
As residents wait for updates on the fire’s containment, efforts to support those displaced have begun. Local officials have opened evacuation centers, and neighboring communities have organized donations to assist those affected.
For Spencer and Heidi, who lost their home, the coming weeks will undoubtedly be a time of rebuilding. Despite the tragedy, they remain thankful for their family’s safety.
“We’re heartbroken but grateful we got out in time,” Spencer shared with followers.
