A massive community effort in Manvel, Texas, successfully rescued a frightened dog found with a plastic bowl stuck on its head. The lab mix was first spotted on Tuesday in Brazoria County, prompting local authorities to seek public assistance.
Initial sighting and call for help
Police shared a photo of the distressed dog on social media, asking residents for help in locating the animal. It was unclear how long the dog had been missing, but its distinctive appearance made it easily recognizable. The bowl, which covered its head, added urgency to the search.
Community effort and search attempts
Manvel Mayor Dan Davis, along with animal control officers and police, quickly organized a search. The dog was later seen near Del Bello and County Road 58, approximately 20 miles from Houston. Despite several sightings, attempts to approach the dog initially failed as it ran off.
“Others and I have been searching without success, and now more searches are being organized,” Mayor Davis reported. Authorities used drones and even attempted to sedate the dog to facilitate its capture.
As concern grew among residents that the bowl might restrict the dog’s breathing, efforts intensified. The bowl appeared to cover both the dog’s nose and mouth, increasing the risk to its health.
Later in the day, the dog was successfully captured and taken to a veterinarian for evaluation. “She has been captured and is en route to the vet! Thank you to our Animal Control, local citizens, and rescue groups for all the help capturing her,” the local police announced on Facebook.
The collaborative spirit of Manvel’s residents and officials highlighted the community’s dedication to animal welfare. The rescue operation underscored the power of collective action in ensuring the safety of vulnerable animals.
