Texas inmate serving life sentence for sexual abuse escapes prison; manhunt underway

An American inmate serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for child sexual abuse escaped from a prison in the southern state of Texas.

Local authorities are looking for Robert Yancy Jr., 39. He was last seen around 3:38 p.m. (local time) on Sunday at the facility on Highway 36, which runs through Brazoria County.

“The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) is searching for an escapee. Robert Yancy, Jr. (#02400500), 39 years old, was last seen at approximately 3:38 p.m. on Sunday, December 17 at the Clemens Unit in Brazoria, Texas,” the TDCJ said in a statement.

Yancy was last seen driving a white Nissan Versa with the license plate DNR-9145. According to the TDCJ release, he was last seen wearing a black beanie and a black sweater.

“If you see Yancy, do not approach him and contact your local law enforcement. If you have information on his whereabouts, you can also leave a tip with the Office of Inspector General at 1-800-832-8477,” TDCJ added.
