Masked suspect caught on camera breaking into Brooklyn synagogue
A suit-clad intruder stole approximately $15,000 from donation boxes inside a Brooklyn synagogue during an early-morning heist last month, police and sources said.
Thief disguised in business attire
The suspect, dressed in a suit, baseball cap, and backpack, broke into Congregation Agudath Sholom on 18th Avenue near East 19th Street in Kensington around 1 a.m. on January 25, according to authorities.
Footage released by the NYPD on Tuesday night shows the thief stealthily entering the synagogue, moving through various rooms, and collecting cash from multiple donation boxes.
Heist caught on surveillance video
The video captures the suspect carefully unlocking the door before making his way inside. After taking the money, he exited the same way he entered, closing and locking the door behind him before casually walking away.
Authorities say he fled east on 18th Avenue before heading south on Coney Island Avenue.
It remains unclear whether anyone else was inside the synagogue at the time of the robbery, but no injuries were reported.
Suspect still at large
As of Wednesday, the unidentified thief was still on the loose.
Authorities urge anyone with information on the suspect to contact the NYPD’s CrimeStoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
