78-year-old reunited with stolen Cane Corso puppy in Minneapolis
A 78-year-old man who was knocked down and robbed of his Cane Corso puppy earlier this week has been joyfully reunited with the dog, according to Minneapolis police.
“A kind person who purchased the puppy saw the story and contacted MPD to coordinate the return of the puppy,” the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) shared on Facebook on Friday. “The kindness of others is always a wonderful response to violence. Check out the smile of the owner when he was reunited with his canine companion.”
Stolen puppy returned by the buyer
Authorities reported that the puppy was returned to its rightful owner by the person who had unknowingly purchased it. After seeing news coverage of the theft, they reached out to the police to facilitate the reunion.
The incident occurred on August 5, when an unidentified individual knocked down the senior and stole the dog on the 1800 block of 3rd Ave South in Minneapolis.
Ongoing investigation
Police are still actively seeking information related to the case. They have asked the public for help in identifying several individuals who may have connections to the incident, including a youth photographed on public transportation holding the puppy and three people captured on surveillance video at a convenience store.
A woman claiming to be the youth’s mother responded to the police post, as reported by Minnesota-based outlet Bring Me The News. “My 14-year-old child should not be in jail for finding a puppy,” she stated, adding, “He did not assault anybody or hit anybody.”
Another commenter, who claimed to know one of the women seen in the surveillance video, also defended her, insisting she had no involvement in the robbery. “I know this woman in the picture and she had nothing to do with it!” the commenter wrote. “She couldn’t hurt anyone at all! She’s too loving and kind to people and animals! I know this for a fact! I talk to her every day!”
As of now, police have not identified any suspects or made any arrests in the case.
