San Diego: A 3-year-old accidentally shot his one-year-old sibling to death in a bizarre incident

The United States has been reeling from the issue of gun violence, and while the threat grows, another strange episode occurred in California. On Monday (July 17), a three-year-old accidentally killed a one-year-old sibling in the Fallbrook neighborhood after obtaining an unsecured firearm. Local authorities, according to local media, stated that the toddler accidentally shot the infant resulting in her death. Authorities have not published the identities of the children out of respect for the family.

According to Lt Joseph Jarjura of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, deputies received a call about a shooting in the 1100 block of S Stagecoach Lane at 7:30 a.m. (local time). When police officers arrived on the scene, they confirmed that a three-year-old had obtained an unsecured gun.

They also discovered a one-year-old girl with a head injury who was rushed to a local hospital but died as a result of her injuries despite life-saving measures. As quoted by FOX 5, Jarjura said, “The Sheriff’s Department extends our sympathies to the family and those affected by this death. Sheriff’s Homicide investigators are working to gather more information to determine the circumstances of the death.”

The inquiry is still ongoing, according to SDSO, because there are no unidentified suspects or threats to the community. An autopsy will be undertaken to identify the cause of death of the one-year-old.
