Oregon newlywed nurse found dead days after disappearing; neighbor suspected of murder

Tragic Discovery After Three-Day Search

In a heartbreaking turn of events, 32-year-old Melissa Jubane, a cardiac nurse from Oregon, was found dead on Saturday, September 7, just days after she was reported missing. Jubane had recently returned from her honeymoon in Hawaii after marrying Bryan Llantero. Her body was discovered following an intensive three-day search, and her 27-year-old neighbor has now been accused of her murder.

Jubane, who worked at St. Vincent Hospital in Southwest Portland, failed to show up for her morning shift on September 4, sparking immediate concern among friends and family. According to the Beaverton Police, a welfare check was conducted at her apartment in the Five Oaks neighborhood after she was reported missing. Officers, accompanied by apartment complex staff, found no trace of Jubane inside her residence. Her remains were subsequently discovered on Friday evening, September 6.

A joyous occasion turns tragic

Just a month earlier, on August 4, Jubane had married Bryan Llantero in a beautiful ceremony in Haleʻiwa, O’ahu. The couple had celebrated their union with friends and family in Hawaii, a place where they had first met and dated for over a decade. They got engaged in Oahu the previous year. After their wedding, the couple flew to Washington State on September 1 to spend Labor Day with Jubane’s family. Jubane returned to her Oregon apartment the following day, planning to stay close to her workplace.

Disturbing developments

Beaverton Police revealed in a Facebook post that officers and family members were unable to contact Jubane, as her phone appeared to be turned off. “Additionally, searches of Melissa’s bank and credit card records yielded no new information regarding her location,” the post mentioned. Jubane was entered into national law enforcement databases as a missing person on September 4, and her neighbor soon became a suspect.

Neighbor arrested for Murder

In a shocking twist, the police determined through an extensive investigation that Jubane’s neighbor, 27-year-old Bryce Johnathan Schubert of Beaverton, was involved in her disappearance. Schubert was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. “As a result of an extensive investigation, it was determined that one of Melissa’s neighbors, 27-year-old Bryce Johnathan Schubert of Beaverton was involved in her disappearance. Subsequently, Schubert was arrested this evening and charged with Melissa’s murder. Melissa Jubane’s remains have been recovered,” the police statement read.

The news of Jubane’s death has left her community devastated. Her cousin, Onilobes Allan, paid tribute to her on Facebook, describing her as “down to earth” and “funny.” Allan called for justice, saying, “These are the kind of people our government needs to protect so we can have a chance to live in peace and have happiness in the world but unfortunately got taken advantage and was killed by someone that is very evil. I’m asking the government to make laws that protect good citizens. My family has been serving United States military since World War II until now and we don’t deserve this. To whom it may concern, we need JUSTICE FOR MELISSA and for all the good people in this country USA.”

Hospital statement

Providence St. Vincent Hospital also released a statement mourning the loss of their colleague. “Our hearts are broken at the news of the death of our Providence St. Vincent nurse and colleague, Melissa Jubane. This comes as a shock to us all and she is mourned by her co-workers. Melissa was an exceptional nurse. We appreciate all the expressions of concern from the community. Melissa was a person of Providence, and we will miss her.”
