A Shocking Incident of Child Endangerment Unfolds in Northeast Ohio
In a deeply disturbing case from Ohio, a mother handcuffed her six-year-old son, permitting a pit bull to maul him. The tragic event, which has led to child endangerment charges for her boyfriend and the boy’s uncle, occurred on August 17 in a Northeast Ohio home.
The boy was punished by his mother and two other men for not cleaning up after the dog. The woman, Angelina Williams, told the court she didn’t know that handcuffing a child was illegal.
“The dog is not even my dog. The cuffs are not even my cuffs,” Williams stated in a recent court appearance in Ashland County.
The scene of crime
The dog was owned by the boy’s uncle Robert Michalski Jr who also owned the residence where the attack took place. Williams’s boyfriend, Taylor Desiree Marvin Brown, was present during the incident. Williams further insisted, “I didn’t even know the cuffs were illegal or anything was wrong with it. My uncle told me it was OK.”
Ashland County Prosecutor Chris Tunnell recounted the chilling events for the court. He revealed that the boy was not only handcuffed but also had his feet tied together.
“This defendant and the co-defendants handcuffed him, both hands, and then applied a second set of cuffs to his feet,” Tunnell explained to the judge.
The attack
As the trio was about to tie the boy to a chair, he fell off, triggering the pit bull’s attack. The boy sustained severe injuries to his neck and ear and is currently being treated at a hospital. His grandmother, who saved him, told WSAZ-3 that he is expected to recover.
Grandmother intervenes
Williams did not have custody of the boy or his sister, who was also present at the home during the attack. The children were with her for a scheduled visit.
“I come in, and I look at my grandson who is sitting on the floor and – not to cuss – I’m like, ‘Why the f**k does he have handcuffs on?'” the grandmother exclaimed.
She immediately intervened, sustaining minor injuries to her hands in the process. “It was just a reaction when the dog did it. I automatically just reached down. I saw where the dog was going, like it went in slow motion,” she recounted.
The Ashland County Sheriff reported that Michalski and the dog escaped before deputies arrived but were later found hiding in a cubbyhole.
Charges filed
Williams has been charged with endangering children, while Michalski faces charges of endangering children and tampering with evidence. The case continues to unfold as the community grapples with the shocking details of the incident.
