Maryland: Man wins big in lottery after playing the same numbers for a decade

After nearly ten years of playing the same lottery number combination, a man in the United States has finally won $50,000, according to lottery authorities. According to a news release, the winner from Prince George’s County, Maryland, who wished to remain anonymous, won the huge reward on May 28 after playing the Maryland Lottery’s Bonus Match 5 game.

“I play the same numbers all the time, and I’ve been doing so for years,” the man informed officials from the Maryland Lottery offices in Baltimore. He went to a liquor store in Temple Hills and purchased a $4 ticket with six lines, one of which included his regular combination of the numbers 5, 6, 8, 23, and 30, he explained.

He was shocked to find that his unique sequence of five digits had won him the top reward

The Maryland Lottery claimed that he was shocked to find the next day that his unique sequence of five digits had won him the top reward. In addition, the unidentified winner picked three numbers from a different line and won $15 off of them. According to the news release, he called his wife of 22 years right away to tell her the wonderful news. Seth Elkin, a spokesperson for Maryland Lottery and Gaming, wrote to CNN in an email, “Many lottery players tell us that they have certain combinations of numbers that they use on a regular basis.”

Sometimes people choose their favorite athletes’ jersey numbers or their birthdates, and other times they just feel lucky around certain numbers, according to Elkin. The winner says he plans to use the prize to pay bills and put the rest into savings.
