Tearful Reunion Brings Joy and Mixed Emotions
In a heartwarming and unexpected turn of events, Judith Monarrez has been reunited with her beloved Chihuahua, Gizmo, nine years after he went missing.
Judith, who last saw Gizmo in 2015 when she was 28 and living with her parents in Las Vegas, was devastated when her two-year-old pet slipped past a faulty gate and ran off. Despite moving into her own home, earning a master’s degree in English, and starting a teaching career, she never gave up hope of finding him.
The miracle discovery
On June 21, Judith received an email that left her in tears—Gizmo had been found alive. A woman had spotted the Chihuahua on the street and took him to a vet, where a microchip scan triggered the notification to Judith. Within hours, Judith and Gizmo were reunited.
“It’s a miracle,” Judith exclaimed. “I’m so glad I registered his microchip.”
The reunion was bittersweet. Gizmo, now a senior dog, showed signs of his difficult years. He had become afraid of shadows, heights, and birds, walked with a limp, and suffered from severe eye infections and missing teeth. Despite these changes, Judith immediately recognized him.
“Even though he looked so different, when I looked in his eyes, I knew immediately it was Gizmo,” Judith said. “As soon as I said his name, he tilted his head and didn’t stop staring at me.”
Focus on healing and love
Judith and her parents are now dedicated to addressing Gizmo’s health issues and showering him with love. “We’re focusing on his recovery and making up for all the lost time,” she added.
A similar story of hope
This miraculous reunion is reminiscent of another heartwarming story from the UK. Last year, a dog named Rose, who had been missing for over six years, was found alive after surviving in the woods, living off food left out for badgers.
These stories highlight the enduring bond between pets and their owners and the incredible power of hope and perseverance.
