'Largest attack on US soil since 9/11': Pakistani citizen's chilling plot unveiled

Arrest in Canada Foils Major Terrorist Attack in New York

In a chilling revelation, a 20-year-old Pakistani citizen residing in Canada was arrested for planning what he described as the “largest attack on US soil since 9/11.” The suspect, Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, also known as Shazeb Jadoon, was apprehended on Wednesday, September 4, and charged with attempting to provide material support and resources to the Islamic State (IS), a designated foreign terrorist organization (FTO).

The plot

Khan’s plan targeted New York City, with the attack scheduled around October 7, coinciding with the first anniversary of Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel.

According to US Attorney General Merrick B. Garland, this meticulously planned act of terror was intended to create unprecedented chaos in the Big Apple.

An analysis of Khan’s social media footprint revealed his growing support for IS, which he began expressing publicly in November of the previous year. His activities on various social media platforms and encrypted messaging apps painted a grim picture of his intentions.

The chilling statement

“If we succeed with our plan, this would be the largest attack on US soil since 9/11,” Khan stated in one of his messages, showcasing his dangerous resolve to create havoc.

Khan was ultimately arrested after he began communicating with two undercover law enforcement officers. During these conversations, he confirmed the involvement of a US-based IS supporter, referred to as “Associate-1” in the official documents. “Associate-1” was also planning to carry out an attack in another US city, further amplifying the potential threat.

Legal repercussions

The arrest of Muhammad Shahzeb Khan underscores the ongoing threat posed by radicalized individuals and the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts. As the investigation continues, authorities remain focused on dismantling terrorist networks and preventing future attacks.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the persistent dangers faced by nations worldwide and the critical need for comprehensive counter-terrorism strategies to safeguard citizens.
