The victim, identified as Judge Kevin R. Mullins, 54, was killed at the Letcher County courthouse in Whitesburg, located approximately 200 miles southeast of Louisville. Letcher County Coroner Perry Fowler corroborated the information.

Kentucky State Police have taken a suspect into custody, though the motive remains unclear. State Trooper Matt Gayheart stated that it is “early in the investigation” and authorities are actively “trying to piece together” evidence and information.
