Kanye West issues apology for offensive remarks
Rapper and entrepreneur Kanye West has issued a public apology after sharing a controversial and sexually explicit post about former Vice President Kamala Harris on X (formerly Twitter). The since-deleted post, which referenced Harris’ loss to Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, quickly sparked backlash.
In the deleted post, West wrote, “I used to want to f–k Kamala until she lost. I don’t f–k losers anymore.”
West’s follow-up remarks and apology
Following the deletion of his initial post, West continued his tirade on X, making another statement that appeared to mock his critics. “The democrats made me take the loser post down. Naw I’m kidding. Dey don’t control black people no more. Trump 4 life,” he wrote.
However, Kanye West later attempted to backtrack, issuing an apology that read: “Kamala seems like a very nice human. I just wanna say sorry to her kids.”
History of social media controversies
West, who is married to Bianca Censori, has a history of inflammatory social media activity. He was previously banned from X in 2022 for sharing anti-Semitic content. His recent posts have been part of a broader social media outburst, during which he made multiple erratic statements, including, “The world is so lucky to have me” and “Trump’s back in office. Ye’s back a billionaire. The world might just be ok.”
In another post, West joked about being a “clone” and asserted that his wealth gave him the freedom to “say whatever the f–k” he wanted.
Taylor Swift reference reignites old feud
Among his numerous posts, Kanye West also shared a claim that Taylor Swift was the only person he followed on Instagram. The reference reignited memories of their long-standing feud, which began in 2009 when West interrupted Swift’s MTV VMA acceptance speech for Best Female Video. At the time, he grabbed the microphone from Swift and declared, “Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’mma let you finish. But Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!”
West’s social media activity continues to draw criticism, with many questioning the impact of his statements on public discourse. His latest apology, while acknowledging the controversy, has done little to quell the backlash against his remarks about Harris.
