Jill Biden: US first lady tests positive for Covid-19

The White House said on Monday (September 4) that US First Lady Jill Biden tested positive for COVID-19, while President Joe Biden tested negative. The White House stated that Jill is suffering relatively mild symptoms and will remain at their residence in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

“Following the First Lady’s positive test for COVID-19, President Biden was administered a Covid test this evening,” the White House said. “The President tested negative. The President will test at a regular cadence this week and monitor for symptoms,” it added.

President Biden will attend the G-20 summit in India

This week, President Biden will attend the G-20 summit in India. The White House has not said whether his foreign travel will be hindered. However, the president’s official week-ahead schedule, posted shortly after the first lady’s diagnosis, showed him traveling to India’s capital New Delhi for the G20 summit on Thursday. On Sunday, he will travel to Vietnam.

Jill and Joe both tested positive for Covid last year. Jill tested positive for COVID-19 in August of last year, while Joe tested positive in July of 2022. Meanwhile, President Biden will not attend the ASEAN meeting in Jakarta this week, instead, US Vice President Kamala Harris will attend the event.
