Rocky, the brave K-9, prevents further casualties in the Houston confrontation
Rocky, a police dog with the United States Marshals Service, is being celebrated as a hero after his heroic efforts led to the capture of a fugitive in Houston, Texas. Despite being shot during the operation, Rocky’s actions alerted officers to the suspect’s location, averting potential loss of life.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at a strip center in southwest Houston, where fugitive Sean Christopher Davis had earlier shot Brazoria County Sheriff’s Deputy Jesus Vargas. According to KHOU11, Davis was hiding in a trash bin when Rocky tracked him down. As officers approached, the fugitive fired two shots at the K-9 before being fatally shot by law enforcement while still in the dumpster.
“K-9 saved lives,” says Marshals chief
Chief T. Michael O’Connor of the US Marshals Service emphasized Rocky’s critical role in the operation. “The amazing aspect here that people have to understand is that the K-9 saved lives,” O’Connor said. “When the K-9 went in there, he [the suspect] decided to take the dog out.”
After the confrontation, Rocky, injured but alive, was rushed to a veterinary hospital via a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter. The Houston Police Department confirmed that Rocky is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.
