As per two sources familiar with the decision, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will officially enter the upcoming presidential race next week. The Republican governor is likely to file paperwork and declare his candidacy on May 25 and have the formal launch on May 29. On May 25, donors will be put to work, alluding to raising money for the election. Former US President Trump has been stepping up his attacks on the Florida governor.
DeSantis’ assertion on staying out of the race until the Florida legislature completed its spring session earlier unnerved some major Republican donors. They expressed their wishes for DeSantis to jump in sooner and rebut Trump. However, these attacks have taken a toll on his standing in national polls. But the Florida governor and his advisers are hoping to use the legislature’s session as a springboard for the campaign announcement. So far, they have stayed true to their agenda.
