In Florida, the parents of an eight-month-old newborn were arrested after the youngster tested positive for fatal quantities of fentanyl. The baby died on May 31, according to Fox News, and the parents, Nicholas and Carissa Alexander, were arrested last week. According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to a home near Bee Ridge Road after receiving reports that a baby had died there. An inquiry eventually revealed that the baby was discovered unresponsive and was taken to a nearby hospital.
When the baby was discovered face-down on couch cushions inside the residence, his mother was caring for him. According to the sheriff’s office, the baby was left alone between 10:30 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. until Nicholas Alexander arrived home from work. Both parents were caught and were inebriated when questioned, the Fox News report said.
Parents charged with manslaughter; child died from fentanyl poisoning
According to the sheriff’s office, the baby’s postmortem report confirmed that the youngster had been deceased for several hours. The toddler tested positive for deadly levels of fentanyl as well. The parents are being imprisoned in a penitentiary facility after being charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child.
A similar scenario occurred in Ohio, where a lady was charged with the murder of her 16-month-old toddler after leaving the infant unsupervised for around 10 days while she went on vacation. Kristel Candelario, 31, was arrested in connection with her infant girl, Jailyn’s, death. On June 16, the toddler was discovered unresponsive at home. According to a police document, Ms. Candelario was on a trip to Puerto Rico and Detroit while the baby was left alone inside the house.
