A resilient bull terrier named Trooper has found his forever home after a dramatic rescue during Hurricane Milton, capturing hearts nationwide with his incredible story of survival and second chances.
A dramatic rescue
On October 9, 2024, Florida Highway Patrol troopers discovered the young dog tied to a fencepost, abandoned and stranded as Hurricane Milton threatened the Tampa Bay area. The viral video of his rescue sparked widespread public sympathy and outrage.
A perfect match
Frank and Carla Spina, experienced bull terrier owners from Parkland, Florida, were immediately drawn to Trooper’s story. After a meticulous adoption process with the Leon County Humane Society, the couple welcomed Trooper home in November.
“Within three minutes, we were best friends,” Frank Spina recalled. Despite initial concerns about Trooper’s past trauma, the dog quickly bonded with his new family, including his bull terrier sibling Dallas.
The Leon County Humane Society hopes Trooper’s story will inspire more animal adoptions. “Adopting a dog from a shelter saves a life and offers a second chance,” the organization stated.
Trooper, now part of a loving home with 33 years of bull terrier experience, represents hope for shelter animals everywhere—a testament to compassion, resilience, and the transformative power of adoption.
