A viral photo of FBI Director Kash Patel wearing a Liverpool-themed tie has sparked widespread speculation about his football loyalties. The tie, featuring the Liverbird, the emblem of Liverpool FC, was seen during one of his confirmation hearings before the Senate.
Does Kash Patel support Liverpool?
Social media users were quick to wonder whether Patel is a Liverpool fan, given that the red and white tie bore the iconic Liverbird—a mythical creature representing the city of Liverpool and prominently displayed on the football club’s crest and merchandise.
While Patel’s political affiliations are with the Republican Party, which leans conservative, Liverpool FC has historically been associated with socialist and working-class values. Legendary manager Bill Shankly, credited with shaping the club’s ethos, famously instilled a socialist spirit that has continued under successors like Bob Paisley and more recently, Jürgen Klopp.
Social media reactions
As the image circulated online, Liverpool supporters had mixed reactions. Some were amused, while others questioned whether Patel’s political views aligned with the club’s historical identity.
“The FBI director is part of the MAGA administration. Disgusting that he supports a club like Liverpool,” wrote one user.
“Hope he knows what the club stands for,” added another.
However, not all reactions were critical. One fan defended Patel’s choice, saying:
“Kash is the man. Well-documented that he’s a Red. I dare Mikel Arteta to try something funny.”
Who is Kash Patel?
Born in New York in 1980 to Gujarati parents, Kash Patel spent part of his childhood in East Africa before returning to the U.S. He attended Garden City High School in Long Island and later graduated from the University of Richmond. Patel then earned a law degree and a certificate in International Law from the University College London Faculty of Laws.
His career includes serving as the National Security Advisor and Senior Counsel for the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI). Now, as the FBI Director, he remains a polarizing figure, with even his choice of football club becoming a topic of debate.
