Tesla CEO Elon Musk has dismissed claims that he plans to contribute $45 million monthly to a new super political-action committee (PAC) supporting former President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. Musk labeled the report as “fake.”
In a sarcastic post on X, Musk shared a picture of two gnus with human limbs, captioned “Fake GNUS,” along with The Wall Street Journal’s report. His post was a direct rebuttal to the article, which cited sources familiar with the matter.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Musk intended to support America PAC, a committee formed in June to register voters and encourage early voting and mail-in ballots in swing states. The PAC aims to counter Democratic “get out the vote” campaigns, bolstered by significant funding from the Biden camp.
America PAC has reportedly hired staff and actively engaged in voter registration and constituent discussions in key states. A recent filing showed that the PAC raised $8.75 million in contributions over three months ending June 30.
Despite these reports, Musk has previously stated his reluctance to donate to the campaigns of Trump or President Joe Biden. However, The Wall Street Journal noted Musk’s growing closeness to Trump in recent months.
Following an assassination attempt on Trump at a Pennsylvania rally, Musk publicly endorsed the former president. In a post on X, Musk expressed his support, wishing for Trump’s swift recovery and drawing a comparison to Theodore Roosevelt’s toughness.
The assassination attempt occurred during a campaign rally, where Trump was on stage when gunshots erupted, leading to the Secret Service securing the area. Trump later revealed that a bullet had grazed the upper part of his right ear. The incident also resulted in the death of one attendee and injuries to two others.
The FBI identified the shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. The investigation into the case continues.
