Framed New York Post front page featuring Trump’s mugshot spotted during Modi’s White House visit
US President Donald Trump has proudly displayed his mugshot just outside the Oval Office in the White House, turning what was once a legal setback into a symbol of defiance.
The framed front page of the New York Post, featuring Trump’s August 2023 mugshot, was seen during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the White House. It has reportedly been there since at least February 4, when Donald Trump met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Mugshot: A historic first for a US President
The infamous booking photo was taken at Fulton County Jail in Georgia after Donald Trump was arrested on felony charges related to his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 US election results.
The image, now an iconic representation of Trump’s defiant political persona, shows him:
✔ Wearing a navy suit and red tie
✔ Scowling at the camera with furrowed brows
✔ Becoming the first US president to have a mugshot released
Donald Trump’s team embraces the symbolism
Dan Scavino, Trump’s longtime aide and now White House deputy chief of staff, posted a video of the framed mugshot on February 14, writing on X:
“HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY! WELCOME TO THE BEAUTIFUL OVAL OFFICE @WHITEHOUSE”
Even Tesla CEO Elon Musk weighed in, reacting to the mugshot’s placement by calling it “Based” on X.
During his presidential campaign, Trump capitalized on the mugshot, presenting it as a symbol of political persecution.
His campaign store even sold coffee mugs featuring the image, with fundraising emails stating:
“I want you to remember what they did to me. They tortured me in the Fulton County Jail, and TOOK MY MUGSHOT. So guess what? I put it on a mug for the WHOLE WORLD TO SEE!”
A statement to supporters and critics alike
By placing the mugshot in a prominent White House location, Trump is openly embracing his legal battles, using them to rally his base and reinforce his “outsider” political brand.
Whether it’s a message of defiance, a political stunt, or both, one thing is clear: Trump’s mugshot isn’t going away anytime soon.
