The FBI and Houston SWAT raided the home of Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the suspect in the New Orleans terrorist attack, uncovering bomb-making materials, multiple copies of the Quran, and other items.
The raid and findings
Authorities intensified their investigation following the New Year’s Day attack, where Jabbar drove a pick-up truck into a New Orleans crowd, killing 15 people. The attacker, reportedly influenced by ISIS, had an IS flag in his vehicle.
At his Houston residence, investigators found:
- Multiple copies of the Quran and a book on Christianity.
- Bomb-making chemicals and other materials.
- A military-style backpack, pepper spray, and an elevated computer desk.
Photos from inside the home, shared by Fox News, show a disorganized living space with overturned furniture and scattered belongings.
Background on the attacker
Jabbar, a 13-year US Army veteran with a tour in Afghanistan, was described by neighbors as a “quiet” individual. Despite his military background, authorities noted his alleged radicalization by ISIS.
Social media has speculated links between the New Orleans attack and a Tesla Cybertruck explosion in Las Vegas. Both attackers were reportedly stationed at Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg) in North Carolina, though no official confirmation of a connection has been made.
