In what marks another mysterious chapter in Connecticut’s cryptozoological history, a Fairfield County resident has reported encountering what they believe to be a Bigfoot, complete with distinctive vocalizations and an imposing physical presence that left local wildlife in unusual silence.
Midnight disturbance rocks quiet community
The encounter, documented by The Bigfoot Field Research Organization (BFRO), occurred after midnight on October 17, 2023, in a known Sasquatch hotspot near the town of Monroe. The witness reported hearing what they described as “screaming/long-duration whooping” echoing through the darkness.
“This voice had quite a bit of ‘power’ behind it and I could tell that it was carried over distance. I would ‘rough’ guesstimate at least two clicks [1.25 miles] from my coords,” the anonymous witness stated in their official report.
Pattern of unusual activity
According to the witness’s account, the unsettling episode lasted approximately ten minutes, with the creature allegedly producing yelping sounds in distinct patterns – roughly ten seconds of vocalization followed by periods of silence. The event triggered an unusual response from local fauna.
“All the dogs in the area started barking at once when the vocalizations ended. Normally there are many owls in the area, and when I had gone outside previously, I could hear them,” the witness reported, emphasizing that the sounds were distinctly different from known local wildlife such as coyotes, bobcats, cougars, or foxes.
Perhaps most telling was the aftermath: “When I had noticed the vocalizations had ended, it was probably a good ten minutes before I could hear the owls again,” the witness added.
BFRO’s professional assessment
Matthew Moneymaker, founder and investigator at BFRO, has classified this incident as a Class B encounter. While the organization initially held back from publishing the report due to its primarily acoustic nature, they ultimately deemed the witness’s account credible enough for official documentation.
The witness’s account includes a detailed physical description of the alleged creature. “It was solid black from head to toe with no color differences. It was also too large to be a person. I had a size comparison with the deer that ran just past it. The black figure was about 2 and a half times the height of the deer’s torso. It must have been between 8 and 10 feet tall,” they reported.
The witness’s initial analysis was methodical: “My first thought was this is either a person or a bigfoot. I did a quick checklist in my head and ruled out person.”
Growing pattern of Connecticut sightings
This latest report adds to a series of unexplained phenomena in Connecticut’s forests, particularly in Fairfield County, which has become known among cryptozoology enthusiasts as a potential Bigfoot habitat. While scientific evidence for the existence of Sasquatch remains elusive, reports like these continue to fuel local interest and speculation about what might lurk in the state’s woodlands.
